Introduction

You know to put your adult toys away (unless they’re incognito) so they’re not in plain sight each time you have platonic guests. But what about the specifics? Sex toy storage can vary depending on the size, shape, and materials of the toys you own. And if you have a beloved adult toy collection like us, the discovery of a broken dildo probably breaks your heart.

Shape

Shape will come into play when considering the best storage for your toys (i.e., bag, box, plastic tube, etc.). Some irregularly sized and shaped toys will be tricky or nearly impossible to find bags for, and putting them in boxes will fill your whole toy chest or cabinet quickly. For these oddballs, try pick and pluck (aka pre-cubed) foam. These are made for storing expensive items like DSLR cameras, so you know your toys will be safely packed, plus the foam will compress and take up a lot less space than a cardboard box.

Size

When storing toys, not only do you need to consider dimensions, you’ll also (even more importantly) need to consider weight. If you have heavy toys and a chest you’re keeping them in, you’ll want to store them at the bottom so they don’t damage the more fragile, brittle or warpable toys.

Materials

Materials matter hugely when storing your toys. We’re going to cover metal, silicone, and glass since most other materials aren’t worth having around.

Metal

Metal is durable and can be stored in just about any material with ease. Never pack any metal toys against glass or resin without a cushiony barrier in between. This may seem obvious, but sometimes when you’re in sub space or post-o mode, the brain fog and lethargy are real!

Silicone

Silicone won’t warp or break, but it tends to be a lint and hair magnet, so plastic is the best storage material for these toys. Some companies sell their silicone toys already packed in plastic tubes with removable tops, which are great for storing in between uses. You can find basically the same thing by using plastic food storage jars with lids larger than the dimensions of the toy you're storing.

Glass

Glass should be stored in something with a soft exterior. Think soft fabric—nothing rough like burlap or tulle that can scratch the surface of the toy. Satin is an inexpensive choice, but it’s thin and doesn’t absorb impact, so you’ll want to pad in between toys if you’re storing it against others. Towels or blankets can be a cheap way to pad in between toys. Velvet pouches are a great storage choice for glass toys which is why we offer them; they are soft enough to preserve the surface of the toy and double as polishing cloths. All our glass toys all come with complimentary pink velvet storage pouches, but if you need some for toys you already have, we offer small and large ones.

Cleaning

Always be sure to properly clean and dry your toys before storing. Cleaning toys in between uses is essential not just for your physical health and safety, but also for the preservation of your toys. Cleaning and drying toys before storing them will save you the hassle of ever having to clean the inside of your toy chest or cabinet, and you’ll never have to worry about bacteria or mold living in there and passing back and forth between surfaces—yuck.

Conclusion

By cleaning and storing your toys properly, you can ensure your favorite toys can last a lifetime (or as close to it as possible).
